OutKast Sues Oakland Rapper Ovrkast Over “Nearly Identical” Stage Name

OutKast is taking legal action over a name that hits unusually close to home.

The Atlanta duo’s trademark company has sued Ovrkast, the Oakland rapper-producer born Silas Wilson, alleging trademark infringement, unfair competition, dilution, and breach of contract.

The lawsuit says Wilson had previously agreed to transition from Ovrkast to Overkxst, but continued using his original stage name. OutKast argues the similarity creates confusion and improperly connects his identity to the duo’s established brand.

Ovrkast responded publicly with a brief reaction, writing, “I thought it was love?” while tagging André 3000 and Big Boi.
