Nvidia’s next major AI graphics technology is almost here.
DLSS 5 launches September 3 with NBA 2K27, making the basketball title the first game to officially use the system. Nvidia says the technology can enhance lighting, textures, shadows, and other visual details in real time using AI.
The tradeoff is performance. Nvidia estimates DLSS 5 can reduce performance by roughly 50 to 60 percent, and official support is currently limited to RTX 50-series hardware and GeForce Now.
Early examples also sparked criticism for altering how game characters looked, though newer NBA 2K27 demonstrations appear more restrained.
