Ib Kamara Departs Off-White After Four Years of Creative Leadership

Another chapter of Off-White is coming to an end.

Ib Kamara has officially stepped down from the brand, closing a four-year period in which he helped lead Off-White through its first major creative era after the death of founder Virgil Abloh.

Kamara joined Off-White as art and image director in 2022 before later being promoted to creative director.

His position came with an unusual challenge.

He was not simply taking over another fashion house.

He was helping shape the future of a brand whose identity was deeply connected to the personality, ideas, and cultural influence of its founder.

Rather than completely separating Off-White from its past, Kamara built on parts of Virgil’s creative language while bringing in his own perspective through styling, sport, tailoring, global culture, and more experimental silhouettes.

That made his time at the brand an important bridge between two eras.

Now that bridge is disappearing.

Off-White has not announced Kamara’s successor, leaving the label entering another period of creative uncertainty.

The bigger question is no longer just who designs the next collection.

It is what Off-White becomes when neither Virgil Abloh nor Ib Kamara is responsible for shaping its creative identity.

For years, Virgil’s influence remained the gravitational center of the brand.

Kamara helped prove that Off-White could continue moving while still carrying pieces of that legacy.

Whoever comes next may have to make a more difficult decision:

Preserve that universe.

Reinterpret it.

Or build something different entirely.
