Grand Jury Finds No Criminal Charges Warranted in Death of Nolan Wells

A grand jury has found no basis for criminal charges in the death of Nolan Wells.

Wells, 18, disappeared while celebrating July 4 with friends on barrier islands off the Mississippi Gulf Coast. His body was recovered near Horn Island two days later.

After hearing from 43 witnesses and reviewing physical evidence, digital records, interviews, videos, and the medical examiner’s findings, the grand jury said the condition and location of Wells’ body were consistent with drowning and that there was no credible evidence of criminal conduct connected to his death.

The report also said Wells had no fatal injuries, though a bruise was found on the back of his head. The case could be reconsidered if new credible evidence emerges.
