Activision Is Taking Over Halo as Xbox Restructures Its Studios

Xbox is going through another major reset.

Microsoft says Activision will develop the next flagship Halo game, while Halo Studios will continue supporting existing titles like Halo Infinite and Halo: Campaign Evolved. Activision is also taking on Sea of Thieves and Age of Empires as part of the wider reorganization.

The changes also include 268 layoffs, while Playground Games and Turn 10 are being merged and Ninja Theory is facing a proposed closure after two separate deals to sell the studio fell through.

The move marks one of the biggest changes yet to how Microsoft manages its major gaming franchises.
